Welcome to the Movie Template Scripting Guide.

ImpossibleFX has a powerful API that lets you create Dynamic Movie template programmatically by composing movie templates written in the Scene Description Language (SDL). You can also use the API to script and extend existing movie templates created by the ImpossibleFX Editor.

What is scripting and why use it?

Your work is characterized by creativity, but many of the actual hands-on tasks are anything but creative. Most likely, you spend a lot of time doing the same or similar procedures over and over again. Scripting is like an assistant, that will free you up from doing repetitive tasks or help you to keep a large dynamic video project organised.

However, while it’s easy to get started, modern scripting languages provide the necessary depth to handle very sophisticated jobs. As your scripting skills grow, you may move on to more complex scripts, and also use features that are not available in the ImpossibleFX Editor.

What can you do with scripting?

Scripting allows you to extend the Dynamic Movie Templates (SDLs) created by the ImpossibleFX Editor or create new ones from scratch. Specifically you can

• Concatinate multiple scenes into one movie
• Use Transformations and Effects that are not available in the ImpossibleFX Editor
• Create SceneViews to create dynamic story flows, where scenes can be dynamically enabled or the flow of the video is changed depending on variables
• Use Morphing and UV Mapping for Face Mapping Videos
• Embed dynamic Bar and Pie Charts into your video.
